Sports betting has a small vocabulary that explains most of what you see. This guide covers it.
How to place a bet
- Find an event, either by browsing or searching.
- Select an outcome — it's added to your bet slip.
- Enter your stake; the slip shows your potential return.
- Confirm to place the bet.
Odds
Decimal odds show your total return per unit staked. Odds of 2.50 return 25 on a 10 stake, 15 of it profit. Odds under 2.00 mean the outcome is considered more likely than not.
Bet types
- Single: one selection. The simplest bet and the one to learn on.
- Accumulator: several selections multiplied together. Every one must win. Higher payout, much lower chance.
- Handicap: one team starts with a virtual lead or deficit, to even out a mismatch.
- Over and under: bet on the total, for example goals, above or below a line.
- Moneyline: a bet on which side simply wins the match, with no handicap involved.
- Correct Score: a bet on the exact final score of the match.
The bet slip
Tap an outcome and it appears in the slip. Enter the stake; the slip shows the potential return. Confirm to place. If odds change before confirmation, the slip asks you to accept the new price.
Live betting
Odds update every few seconds during a match. A short delay applies to placement, so a bet may be rejected if the price moved.
Cash out
Some bets can be settled early for a value shown on the slip, lower than the full return, higher than zero. Useful to lock a profit or limit a loss when the game turns.
Results and settlement
Bets settle from the official result. Settlement usually happens within minutes of the final whistle.
